How this works: unlike every other free-standing tool on this site, speech recognition isn't something a browser can do fully offline — this uses your browser's own built-in speech engine (in Chrome/Edge, that's Google's), which briefly sends your audio to be transcribed. We never see or store it ourselves. No recognizer, from any company, is perfectly accurate — results are usually very good in a quiet room with clear speech, and less reliable with background noise, heavy accents, or mixed-language ("Hinglish"-style) speech, since each language is recognized as its own mode rather than a blended one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this 100% accurate?

No speech-to-text system from any company is 100% accurate, and we won't claim otherwise. Accuracy is generally very good for clear speech in a quiet room, and drops with background noise, fast/mumbled speech, or an accent the recognizer isn't well-tuned for. Always proofread important transcriptions.

Can it understand "Hinglish" (mixed Hindi-English)?

There's no dedicated Hinglish mode — browsers recognize one selected language at a time. Selecting Hindi will transcribe in Devanagari script and may catch some common English loanwords; selecting English (India) will do the reverse. Neither is a true mixed-language mode, so heavily code-switched speech will be less reliable either way.

Which browsers work?

Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have the most reliable support, on both desktop and Android. Safari has partial support. Firefox does not currently support this feature.

Is my voice recorded or stored?

Not by us. Your browser sends audio to its own speech recognition service (Google's, in Chrome) to produce the transcript — we never receive or store the audio ourselves, only the text that appears on your screen.
